2020 T20 World Cup to go ahead as per schedule: ICC

The seventh edition of T20 men’s world cup is scheduled to take place from October 18 to November 15 in Australia. The women’s edition was hosted by the same country in February which turned out to be a successful event. Australia pipped India in the finals to take the coveted trophy.

But with the ongoing COVID 19 situation across the world which has allready affected more than 13 lakh people in the world and over 6000 cases in Australia has put the men’s edition in jeopardy. Many cricketing events in the world are getting postponed or cancelled due to the epidemic outbreak and T20 world cup is also in fray to be rescheduled or cancelled.

However, ICC has released a statement recently where they said that the tournament is likely to go as per the scheduled. ICC noted that the local organizing committee will have a close look at the scenarios and will be monitoring the situation closely.

“In response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Local Organising Committee is monitoring the situation closely with relevant authorities and will continue to do so. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from 18 October – 15 November 2020 in seven venues across Australia. We are planning for the event to go ahead as scheduled,” ICC said in a statement.

The situation is getting worst in Australia and as far as the rumours are concerned, reports state that ICC may reschedule the world cup in 2022. Its worth mentioning that the 2021 edition of the world cup will be played in India and thus scheduling the 2020 edition to 2021 is not a possibility.

Let’s just hope that the situation keeps getting better in Australia and around the globe so the cricket lovers can get to watch the biggest T20 extravaganza in the month of October and November.
