BCCI announces the alternate venue in case of an emergency due to elections

There were speculations circling that the ongoing Indian Premier League season will be held outside of India partially or completely owing to the general elections. The tournament was forced to be held outside of India in 2009 and 2014 general elections which was contested in South Africa and United Arab Emirates(UAE) respectively.

The BCCI and COA finally decided to host the tournament in India but in the latest update, it has been reported that in case of any emergency of hosting a match at the scheduled venue, BCCI is likely to shift the game to a neutral venue. Dr. YSR-ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam will be used as the alternative option to host the match.

“The ground has been looked up as an alternative venue in any eventuality of cancellation of any match in any venue,” an official of ACA was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

“Vizag will be ready to host any match if given the chance and more so IPL. The delegation is apparently pleased with the facilities available and also the playing conditions as of now,” he said.

“The delegation wanted to approach the district officials and other concerned people, after the General Elections here on April 11 but, however, they say it is only as a precautionary measure,” the ACA official said.

The 2019 general election will be held in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019, with the result declaration on 23 May 2019.
