India faced a shocking defeat to France in their opening match of Junior Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar. Both teams were tied at 2-2 after first quarter but France kept scoring goals and went 4-2 up after the end of third quarter, thanks to the hattrick of French captain Timothee Clement. France got another one in the starting few minutes of the last quarter to make it 5-2. The final minute panic meant that India scored two goals back from penalty corner conversion by Sanjay but it was not enough as the defending champions went down 4-5.
Lot will be expected from Indian skipper Vivek Sagar Prasad, who was named the FIH Young Player of the year award at 2020-21 FIH Awards. He can win the midfield battles for India in the game against Canada to create more chances for Indian forward line.
Indian defensive structure looked substandard in the game against France and they have to regroup to not do silly mistakes which can almost ouster them from the world cup if Canada can punch above their weight to defeat the Indian Colts.
