Former India women's cricket team coach arrested in connection with IPL betting

The dirty IPL betting controversy of 2013 ended the career of Sreesanth and two promising cricketer- Ajit Chandela and Ankit Chavan with Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals facing a two year ban from the league. The betting scandal has again hit the league after former India women’s team coach Tushar Arothe was arrested by the police owing to the involvement in betting.

Arothe was arrested along with 18 other people during a raid at a café in Vadodara, Gujarat, DCP, Crime Branch, JS Jadeja was cited as saying by an ANI report.

“We arrested Tushar Arothe along with 18 other persons during a raid at a cafe. Their phones & vehicles have been seized,” Jadeja said.

Arothe’s coaching career

Arothe coached a less hyped Indian women’s team to the finals of women’s world cup in 2017 where they lost to hosts England in a closely contested final. The Baroda all-rounder has also featured in 14 first-class games between 1985 and 2003 besides 51 List ‘A’ matches.

It is learned that Arothe was forced to resign following the differences with senior players who were not happy with his coaching methods.
