Lahore bus attack

En-route to the stadium for a cricket match against the hosts Pakistan, Sri lankan cricket team was attacked by a group of terrorists on 3 March, 2009. A dozen of terrorists fired assault of rockets, grenades and multiple rounds of ammunition at the cricketers and their police escorts.

Six Sri Lankan players were badly injured including captain Mahela Jayawardena and vice-captain Kumar Sangakkara and four policemen and two civilians were killed in the attack. Pakistan faced immense criticism after the attack and it didn’t hosted any International match for over 6 years after Zimbabwe visited for a short tour in 2015.

Despite Pakistan cricket board offering the best possible security to the teams, no top cricket playing nation has expressed the wish to tour the Asian country since then. Pakistan now play its home games in United Arab Emirates(UAE).
