Gautam Gambhir reveals the plans of his retirement from cricket

India’s 2011 world cup final winning hero Gautam Gambhir recently turned 37 and celebrated it in style by scoring a ton in the Vijay Hazare trophy quarter-final against a tricky Haryana. Delhi was chasing a target of 230 kept by Haryana and Gambhir played a knock of 104 runs to take his side home.

The southpaw’s growing age has not affected his game as he has been amongst the runs in BCCI’s premier ODI tournament but the questions of his retirement are surely on the mind of many. Gambhir has himself stepped up and answered the questions on his possible retirement from the game.

No plans of retirement as yet, says Gambhir

The Delhi lad turned in a media interaction and answered some questions about his retirement. He said that there are no plans for him to retire and that he is currently focused to take his side to victory in the Vijay Hazare trophy.

“No, till the time I keep scoring runs, that makes me happy. You keep doing it. I think scoring runs, winning, coming back to the dressing room happy, being in the winning environment makes me happy,” Gambhir told NDTV.

“Till the time I have that passion in me, where I want to come back to a happy dressing room, I want to be a part of that happy environment, — I am going to keep going, and the day I feel that there are no emotions involved in it then I would think it’s time to go,” he added.

Chances of a comeback into the national team

The 37-year-old has certainly impressed one and all with his impressive run in domestic tournaments but with growing age it looks more than certain that the selectors won’t give him another chance with youngsters like Prithvi Shaw and KL Rahul cementing their place at the top of the innings for India.

Gambhir last played for India in a test match against England in 2016.
