Indian women’s cricket team allrounder Harmanpreet Kaur has taken over as DSP in Punjab police. She has been given the waiver of employment bond by her current employer the Indian Railways.

On 17 July, 2018, Punjab government offered Harmanpreet the post of DSP in Punjab Police, following her heroics in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. Kaur scored 171 not out from 115 balls in the semi-final against Australia powering the Indian team into the Women’s World Cup finals, where they narrowly lost to England women. India’s T20 captain is also the recipient of the prestigious Arjuna award, which she got in 2017.

Punjab’s Chief Minister Amrinder Singh alongside DGP Suresh Arora pinned the stars on the uniform of Harmanpreet. He posted a picture on twitter and wrote “Proud to join DGP Suresh Arora in pinning the stars on the uniform of this young cricketer @ImHarmanpreet as she takes over as DSP in @PunjabPolice. This lady has done us proud and I’m confident she’ll continue to do so. My best wishes are with her,”.

The bright smile on the face of the cricketer tells the story of how happy she is. Indian womens team wicket-keeper Sushma Verma send across a congratulatory message to the new DSP of Punjab Police.

The journey of this Moga born girl from playing for Indian womens cricket team to DSP of Punjab police, has been totally remarkable and it speaks the volume of the rising women power in the peninsular country.
