Heena Sidhu wins gold in women’s 25m air pistol at Gold Coast CWG, and ends India’s wait for a gold medal on day 6 of the competition. Heena becomes the first double-medalist from Indian at this edition of CWG, having earlier won a silver in women’s 10m air pistol event on Sunday.

Sidhu broke the Commonwealth Games record of 38 points. The 28-year-old Shooter shot a final score of 38, two of them perfect fives, to claim the top honours ahead of Australian Elena Galiabovitch. The bronze medal went to Malaysia’s Alia Sazana Azahari who scored a total of 26 points.

Sidhu started this event just three years ago and now winning a gold in the event proves the agility of the ace shooter.

Other Indian in contention was Annu Raj Singh, who was second in qualification round but could not replicate the performance in final. She finished sixth with a score of 15.

Earlier, India’s Gagan Narang and Chain Singh finished seventh and fourth respectively in men’s prone position finals, and missed out on a medal.

This will be India’s 8th medal in shooting- 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze.
