India-Pakistan to clash in World Test Championship Finals 2023 ?

India-Pakistan clash is the most awaited encounter for the cricket fans to watch and any world event can generate huge amount of money through this match only. The arch-rivals are set to clash in the 2023 Asia Cup which will be played in 50 over format followed by the 50 over world cup in India. The wait for the much anticipated match is still 10 months away but June 2023 can be the month when these two teams square off against each other in the test format, their first meeting since December 2007 after which the cricketing ties between the two nations were called off.

Will Pakistan take on India in the WTC finals

In all likeliness, India Pakistan clash can be a big possibility in the 2023 world test championship finals at Lord’s. Its worth mentioning that India is the runner up of the last edition when they finished second best in the tournament and lost to New Zealand in the finals.

If we put simple words to the table, India and Pakistan need to win their remaining matches which will be at home to progress through to the finals and it remains highly likely considering they will be facing teams which will struggle against spin in the sub continent.

Explaining the situation-

  • If India win all of their next six matches, their win percentage will jump to 68.06 which will be more than that of Australia’s considering the Rohit Sharma-led side is playing four home Tests against the Aussies. Indian spinners can wreck havoc in the Indian conditions and Aussie batsman can have a tough time in India expect Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith. The Indian team will also tour Bangladesh for the two match test series as well.
  • Sri Lanka’s chances of making it to the finals is rare as they have two remaining matches against New Zealand in away conditions which can be a tough job for them. If they win both of their remaining matches, their win percentage will only go up to 61.11 and that may not be enough.
  • South Africa are second in the table but have a tough road ahead. Even winning four out of their last five remaining Tests will only take their win percentage to 66.67 and there’s a possibility India and Pakistan can leapfrog them.
  • Pakistan have also good chances of making the finals as they have five remaining test all on their home conditions. England will play three test matches against them while New Zealand will tour the country for two test match series. If Pakistan and India manage to win all their remaining matches, they can meet in the finals of world test championship.
  • Australia became a beneficiary of South Africa’s series loss against England as they climbed to the top spot. The Aussies still have nine matches to go but their biggest challenge will be the four-match away tour of India. If Australia win all five home Tests but lose all four in India, their win percentage will drop to 63.16. In such a scenario, India can leapfrog Australia by winning all six of their remaining Tests.
