Indian football signs an important agreement with Germany

In a historic move for Indian football, AIFF signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with German Football Association (DFB) on Friday at New Delhi. The agreement signing happened when Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel’s is on a visit to India.

Kushal Das, secretary of AIFF and Mr. Friedrich Curtius, the general secretary of DFB signed the agreement to formalize the relationship between the two football governing bodies. The MoU covers coach education including the grassroot one, talent promotion and scouting, deployment of professional match referees in India, exchange between national teams and the visit of Germany’s all star team(if feasible), joint marketing initiatives. This steps comes as a great boost to Indian football, who are eyeing a spot in the 2026 world cup from now on.

“It is a great honour for AIFF to get into this agreement with DFB. I am sure this will immensely benefit Indian football significantly,” Kushal das was quoted as saying by India.com.

“Signing of the MoU coincides with German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to India and her talks with Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi-ji for strengthening of bilateral ties between the two countries.

“Germany are renowned for their footballing prowess, and the work done by them at the grassroots level stands out. The MoU represents a great opportunity to learn from their experience and expertise through mutual cooperation and collaboration.” he added.
