Kolkata gets ready to host India's first ever day/night test

Bangladesh has finally accepted to play a day-night test match against India in the upcoming two match test series. This will be the second Test match played between India and Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly confirmed this on Tuesday after which it was decided that the Indian cricket team will now play a Test match with pink ball for the first time. The second Test match between India and Bangladesh will be played at the Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium in Kolkata from 22 November.

Both the teams will play the first test from 14th November at Holkar stadium in Indore before heading to Kolkata. “This is the beginning of something special in Indian cricket. It is a priority for the newly elected Office Bearers and members of Apex Council to take Indian cricket forward. For me, as former Captain of India and as the current President of BCCI, Test cricket is of utmost priority and we at BCCI will leave no stone unturned to bring this format back to its feet,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

The new BCCI chairman Spurav Ganguly has always favored the day-night test matches which can bring more excitement to the longest format of the game and help filling the stadiums.

Before becoming BCCI President, Ganguly started the day-night test in domestic cricket when he was the President of Bengal Cricket Association.

Indian team could play the first ever day night test against BangladeshIts worth mentioning that New Zealand and Australia played the first ever day/night test or floodlight test in 2015, where Australia emerged victorious by 3 wickets. India got the first taste of day night test during the 2017 Duleep trophy tournament which was played at newly build Ekana International stadium in Lucknow. In the past days, BCCI has opposed the idea of playing in the longest format of the game under flood lights.
