MS Dhoni termed Chennai as second home, hints at buying Ashwin.

The return of Chennai Super Kings also marks the return of their loved MSD in Chennai. While speaking at an event on Friday morning in Chennai, Dhoni said that the city is like a second home for him and it did hurt to see that Chennai Super Kings was suspended for two years following the IPL controversy. Dhoni was a guest on the launch of a Unique Consumer Offer by India Cements, which is the main sponsor of CSK.

“You know, I can’t think of not coming to CSK. A lot of people approached me, I can tell you that. And as I said, it’s (coming to CSK) because of everything, you know, what we have been through (achievements), how we have conducted ourselves, how the management has been, how the players have been, how the fans have been,” Dhoni said.

Dhoni also talked about the special connection with Chennai. “Test Debut, Highest Score in Test, Playing for Asia XI, not only the innings for CSK,” he said.

Dhoni’s love for off-spinner R. Ashwin is not a hidden secret. He also hinted of going all out for buying Ashwin in the IPL auctions.

“As I have said it is always a tough call. With Ashwin, you know we had done the same thing in the past. We will definitely go for him (Ashwin) in the auction. Ashwin definitely being a local lad, we want a lot of local players to be part of CSK,” Dhoni said.

“We have two right-to-match options but having already retained three capped Indians, don’t think we can use it. We will have to buy him out in the auction. As of now, it is tough to say, we will get him or him or him. Ashwin will come first in the auction for us. But we will have to wait and watch. We will try to get him,” Dhoni added.

Chennai has also retained Suresh Raina and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who were an integral part of the franchise before it was dissolved in 2015.
