MS Dhoni unlikely for South Africa T20 series, selectors looking for 3 back-up keepers

MS Dhoni has returned from the army duty in Kashmir where he was deployed in the terrorist prone area of Awantipura. The veteran of 350 ODIs will now be available for the selection but it is likely that Rishabh Pant will get a nod over him in the upcoming T20 series against South Africa. Dhoni was criticized for slow strike rate at the 2019 World Cup for which he faced the wrath from the fans and cricket pundits.

“There are only 22 T20 Internationals before India play their first World T20 game and selectors are clear in their vision that it’s time to move forward,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

He said that the selectors are willing to get a pool of three wicket keepers ready for limited overs format, especially T20 format.सुनील गावस्कर ने उठाये विराट कोहली की कप्तानी पे सवाल, कह दी यह बड़ी बात

It is not confirmed if selectors will ask Dhoni about his selection like they did before the West Indies tour. However, keeping future in mind, the selectors may sideline the 38-year-old which may force him to retire.

India and South Africa play their three T20Is in Dharamsala (September 15), Mohali (September 18) and Bengaluru (September 22). This time the team will be led by Quinton De Kock. The next T20 world cup will be held in Australia in 2020.
