PV Sindhu edge pasts Saina in quarter finals of Yonex India Open

Siri Fort complex saw a fierce affair between India’s two most decorated badminton stars Saina and Sindhu. However PV Sindhu edge pasts Saina Nehwal 21-16, 22-20 to book herself a semi final berth at Yonex India open.

The first game saw some neck to neck battle. But from 7-7, Sindhu stormed in with some smashes and made Saina run to every corner of the court. Which eventually resulted in turning the game in the favour of Hyderabad born girl.

Saina fought back in the second game and attacked Sindhu with some lethal body smashes. Score was 19-16 in favour of Saina and she was close to take the game to the deciding set. But Sindhu had some other plans, she brought it to 20 – 20 and then bagged two straight points to a win and make the career record of 1-1 against Saina.

Remember this was the 2nd face off between Saina and Sindhu The first face off was in Syed Modi Grand Prix in 2014, which Saina won in straight sets.

It was certainly a delightful evening for the crowd at Siri Fort complex that witnessed the battle of the two best badminton players, nation has ever produced. With loud chants of Saina and Sindhu, the shrill voices were hard to catch by. It became hard to understand, of whom the crowd was supporting.

Now with Sindhu thundering in the Semi Finals, India will want her to repeat the triumph of Saina Nehwal who won this title in 2015, to become the second Indian woman to clinch this title.
