Sri Lanka to replace Zimbabwe and tour India in January 2020

The Indian team’s home T20 series against Sri Lanka has been announced. The Sri Lankan team will visit India in January next year, where they will play three-match T20 series against the men in blue. The T20 series against Sri Lanka will replace the T20 series against Zimbabwe, who were banned by ICC following the involvement of their politicians in cricket governing body. This is being seen as Team India’s preparations just before the World T20. The program was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday.

The first match will be played on January 5 in Guwahati. The second will be played at Holkar stadium in Indore on 7th January and the third match will be hosted at MCA stadium in Pune on 10th January. The two teams last faced each other in Nidahas trophy 2018 where India emerged victorious under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.

14 matches before T20 World Cup

Before the T20 World Cup to be held from October 8, 2020 in Australia, the Indian cricket team will play 14 T20 matches and a total of 4 series. Team India will play 3 T20 matches against Bangladesh in November. West Indies will visit India in December, playing a series of three T20 matches. After this, the Sri Lankan team will travel to India in January to play three T20 matches.

The Indian team will next travel to down south in New Zealand in February – March where a five match T20 series will be played against the black caps. After the tour of New Zealand, Indian players will ply their trade in Indian Premier League for their respective franchise sides, where they will play a minimum of 14 matches. This will give them ample opportunity to get themselves ready for fastest format of the game and win their second World T20 title.
