Prithvi Shaw has been the center of attraction after he was named the man of the series in his debut test appearance for India against West Indies by being the highest run scorer in the series(237 runs in 3 innings). The Mumbai batsman impressed one and all with his fearless approach of batting which was compared to former India opener Virender Sehwag by coach Ravi Shastri.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar feels Shaw would have to make some adjustment to his style and will struggle to get going in Australia on the bouncy pitches. He however felt that the more Prithvi plays, the better he will get with every game and will be ready to take the attack to the Australian bowlers.

Prithvi Shaw is the person to take Indian cricket forward in the next 5-10 years. Australia is certainly going to be slightly different, as he has this tendency to open the face of the bat when he plays on the back foot. On bouncier pitches, he might be a bit vulnerable in the gully, third man area,” Gavaskar said while speaking to India Today.

Gavaskar also praised Shaw’s tendency to convert the good starts into big scores.

“Prithvi is someone who thinks centuries, you need such players who want centuries. He is a young man and with experience, he will pace the innings and not be in a rush to reach a landmark. But the way he was playing of the back foot and even defending off the back foot, that is a very encouraging sight,” Gavaskar added.
