Akhil Kumar and Jitender Kumar

Vijender Singh , Jitender Kumar and Akhil Kumar are back . The trio of these three boxers from Haryana created buzz when they reached the quarter finals of Beijing Olympics 2008 and became household names . Remember Vijender competed in super middleweight category , Jitender competed in Flyweight category and Akhil competed in Bantamweight category . Unfortunately Jitender and Akhil lost their quarter finals bout against a tough opposition whereas Vijender went on to win his quarter final bout and further lost in Semi finals giving India a maiden olympic bronze in boxing.

Now the trio of these three superstar boxers are back in the professional boxing arena as Jitender Kumar and Akhil Kumar will make their professional boxing debut on 5th August . Earlier this event was cancelled as Zulpikar the opposition boxer from China refused to fight against Vijender for double title showdown . But according to the undefeated Indian’s promoters IOS Boxing Promotions, talks have taken a positive turn between SECA Worldwide, the Chinese boxer’s promoters and the event is now scheduled to take place on 5th August at the NSCI dome in Mumbai . The main event between Vijender and Zulpikar will be a double title fight . The Indian boxer is the current WBO Asia Pacific Champion whereas the Chinese boxer is Oriental Super middleweight champion . The one who wins the fight takes both the championship title.

Akhil Kumar will take on Australian Ty Gilchrist, while his protege Jitender Kumar will face Thailand’s Thanet Likhitkamporn when the duo makes its professional debut at the NSCI dome in Mumbai.
