There has been a huge debate on the best batsman of the current era. The race has been spearhead by the fab four of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Joe Root and Steve Smith. It is worth noticing that all the four players have captained their sides but there is no denying the fact that Virat Kohli is still the best batsman across all three formats. His fighting innings at home of Robin Hood- Edgbaston has been a treat to watch which gives him an edge over the other three batsman. To make this easy for us, former India cricketer VVS Laxman has himself answered the question and picked the best batsman of all three formats.

Virat Kohli has been a fabulous batsman in white ball cricket but his master class of an innings in the first test at Edgbaston has dropped the charge of being a flat track bully. Kane Williamson has been instrumental in test cricket but his run of form in the IPL 11 made the critics believe that he is an exceptional T20 cricketer also. Joe Root is also one of the top test batsman but his good run in the recently concluded ODI series against India has made the critics rethink about his caliber in white ball cricket. Former Australia captain Steve Smith is out of the picture currently who is facing a one year ban following the sandpaper gate controversy.

VVS Laxman’s opinion on the best batsman

A twitter user asked VVS Laxman’s to pick the best batsman across each format and also requested to pick the best batsman across all three formats.

The stylish Hyderabadi cricketer picked AB De Villiers as the best batsman in the T20 format, who announced his retirement from International cricket in May after the IPL season.

To everyone’s expectation, Laxman picked Virat Kohli as the best batsman in ODI format.

Steve Smith has been out of the national reckoning and recently lost his numero uno ranking in the test cricket to Virat Kohli. However, Laxman feels Steve Smith is still the best batsman in the test format.

Laxman picked Virat Kohli as the best batsman across all three formats of the game.
