Watch: Neeraj Chopra dedicates his gold medal to Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Neeraj Chopra put a dead end to the silver winning streak in the track and field events and bagged the gold with a dominant display to break his own national record. Neeraj, 20, throw 88.06 meters to gain the top honour and give a ray of happiness to the countrymen. What’s more convincing is that he was the flag bearer for the country in the opening ceremony and there were huge hopes resting on his shoulder to finish top on the podium and the army man from Haryana didn’t even disappoint.

After winning the coveted prize, Chopra talked to ANI and dedicated the gold medal to former India Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away on August 16.

“The competition was good. I had trained well and was focused on getting a gold medal for the country,” Chopra said.

“I dedicate my medal to Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, who was a great man,” he added.
