Asia Cup 2018 is all set to begin from 15 September with Sri Lanka taking on unpredictable Bangladesh in the tournament opener. A total of five teams will fight for one coveted honour and they will be joined by Hong Kong who won the Asia Cup qualifier to compete with the best of Asia.

Underdogs Bangladesh will be a top contender coming into the tournament considering their fearless brand of cricket that can take down any opposition on their day. Their captain Mashrafe Mortaza is also brimming in confidence and said that his young side can defeat heavyweights like India and Pakistan.

We have the ability to beat India and Pakistan- Mortaza

“We are not so far from the other team. I think India has a good chance (to win the title), and Pakistan will play at their home-like ground. So, they also have the opportunity (to clinch the trophy). But I want to say that, we have the ability to beat them too. We have to see if we can make the Super Four by playing good cricket in the group phase,” Mashrafe said at a press meet on Thursday at Mirpur.

“After that, there are many calculations. If everything goes in the right way, we won’t be so far from other teams. We may have to face the tough situation on many occasions. Because we did not play in UAE as a team before. So, the condition will not be easy for us. Overall, we are thinking from every angle,” the 34-year-old said.
