New Zealand’s spectacular win against England ahead of the final of the World Test Championship is ‘an alarm bell’ for India. New Zealand beat England by eight wickets in the second test match played in Edgbaston, Birmingham. With this win, the Kiwi team took the two-Test series 1-0 and have won the Test series on England soil after 22 years. Earlier, New Zealand had defeated England in a Test series way back in 1999. The first match of the series was played at iconic Lord’s which ended in a draw.
With this win, the Kiwis have moved up to the first position in the ICC Test Team Rankings with 123 ratings, while Team India is at the second position with 121 ratings. Former captain Michael Vaughan was furious at this crushing defeat of England. Vaughan tweeted, “NZ are a high class team .. Read the situation with the Bat in hand, skilful with the ball & catch brilliantly .. Really fancy them to beat India next week”.

Vaughan predicted that New Zealand are the strongest contender to win the test championship- “New Zealand are strong contenders for me in the World Test Championship final against India. They played two very competitive matches which would boost their confidence. India has also played intra-squad practice matches but it was not very competitive”.
The world test championship final will be played between India and New Zealand from 18th-22nd June 2021 in Southampton.
