Ravi Shastri terms this cricketer as the No. 1 spinner in overseas test

The fitness of the old horses and the impressive performance by the young guns have made India coach Ravi Shastri feel that Kuldeep Yadav is firmly ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to be India’s number one spinner on overseas tour. Kuldeep was included for the last test against Australia and the Kanpur lad impressed with a five-wicket haul to leave Australia awestruck.

Wrist spinners have been India’s greatest strength from couple of years and the same formula may soon be applied in the test format. Shastri further said that wrist spinners will be the first choice in the test matches and Kuldeep is allready ahead of R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

“Already! He plays overseas Test cricket and he gets five wickets, so he becomes our primary overseas spinner. Going ahead, if we have to play one spinner, he is the one we will pick. There is a time for everyone (referring to Ashwin’s poor fitness record in 2018). But now Kuldeep is our frontline number one overseas spinner,” Shastri told Cricbuzz.

Shastri was impressed with the way Kuldeep bowled in the rain hit Sydney test where most of the Australian batters failed to read his chinaman spin.

“I was very impressed with the way Kuldeep bowled in Sydney. Even in Test cricket, it is going to be the age of wrist spin, especially in overseas Test cricket. The way he bowled in Sydney, he becomes our number one spinner in overseas Test cricket,” Shastri said.
