Babar Azam opens up on comparison with Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has turn out to be a run scoring machine as he scores and win matches for his team, every time he steps on the cricket field. With the form he is currently in, no cricket record looks distant from his grips. He is often compared to world’s best when it comes to batting, some people are of the opinion, that he is even better than them.

Virat is a part of the modern fab-four of the world, which includes Steve Smith, Joe Root and Kane Williamson. However the fans across the border demands that Babar Azam should also be included in the list, as he is equal to Kohli.

Pakistani coach Mickey Arthur had earlier compared Azam to Kohli, but the batsman from Lahore says “He compared me with a very big player. I think it shouldn’t be done. But that is the coach’s thinking. Maybe the stats at the start of our careers are similar, but he is the No.1 batsman in the world. I want to perform at a high level for Pakistan too.

Azam also revealed the batsman he loves to watch and follow.

I loved watching AB de Villiers in the early days. I used to follow him closely. I copied him a lot too. In the nets, I used to at least try some of the shots he played in the matches. Those hadn’t been played back then. I still don’t try those shots. I play normally. Nowadays I follow Virat Kohli, Hashim Amla, and of course, de Villiers,” said Azam.

Babar Azam is the cousin of Pakistani players Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal and Adnan Akmal. Azam is the only player from the four brothers, to not be a wicket-keeper.

He emerged from the ranks of Pakistan’s Under-19 team of 2012, and the 23-year old promises to be a great future prospect for Pakistan.
