BCCI all set to organise IPL women's T20 exhibition match

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to organise an IPL women’s T20 exhibition match before the first play-off game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 22.

Confirming the news, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji told ANI that the board wants to give an opportunity to women cricketers to experience IPL-style T20 match.

“It is a really good initiative. We wanted to give our women players opportunity to experience this. It’s just that we want to encourage performance of the Indian team and recognise their performance and help them exhibit their game. In case women’s IPL happens in future, then this experience will work for them,” she said.

There will be 30 players who will be part of the two teams, with 20 of them being Indian while 10 will be foreign players. Like the men’s IPL rules, there will be four foreign players in each team.

The match will be broadcasted live and will kick start at 2.30 pm.

Past Reports

There was a demand of women’s IPL since the women in blue went on to play the final of 2017 women’s world cup in England, where they lost to the home team, missing the world cup title by a whisker. However, their performance was highly praised by the fans in India and women’s cricket got all the popularity that it deserved.

Same experiment was held by Amatuer Kabaddi Federation of India by organising Women’s Kabaddi Challenge in the Pro Kabaddi League season, where three teams (Storm Queen, Ice Divas and Fire Birds) participated in the first season, which was played in 2016, from 28 June to 31 July.
