Four reasons why cricketers chew bubble gum on the field

With the passing time cricket has revolutionized in every sphere which includes the rise of T20 cricket. However, with the passing time there has been one thing which has not changed and that is the cricketers chewing the bubble gum. From India’s 1983 winning captain Kapil Dev to present captain Virat Kohli, players are often seen chewing the gum.

Now the question which arise is, why the players chew the gum, what are the benefits and we will decode the mystery for you.

4- Chewing gum reduces fear

Whatever is eaten, the brain totally concentrates on chewing. It is scientifically proven that chewing gums controls the secretion of adrenaline ( as adrenaline induces fear, excitement, anxiety). Cricketers chew gum only in order to control the pressure inside them. So they can field and catch without any fear.

3- Dryness of the mouth

The chewing gum prevents the mouth to dry. Since the players spend alot of time in the sultry heat with sun soaring up in the sky but they are not allowed to drink water all the time. The chewing gum does the job for the players.

2- Keeps the mind active

When you keep on standing in the field for hours(especially in tests) it will lead you to dizziness and makes brain inactive. If you do the Chewing, brain remains active as the body is performing some work(i.e chewing).

1- Style quotient

It is a kind of a swag for the players which was very well portrayed by the great Sir Vivian Richards and Ricky Ponting. The others try to imitate them so as to look fearless or stylish even during intense situations which can ease the pressure.
