Rohit Sharma first arrived to International scenes when he was selected for India’s World T20 squad of 2007 and since then the Mumbai batsman was considered a talented cricketer but failed to do justice to his talent. It was during the 2013 Champions trophy that Dhoni’s masterpiece of promoting him as a opener did a trick for his career and he established himself as a permanent opener in the Indian team.

Rohit is the only player who has three double centuries in ODI cricket and his form in limited overs is undoubtable. He is the vice captain of Indian team in limited overs format and continues to be one of the pillars of the Indian team.

Sunil Gavaskar’s remarks on Rohit Sharma

Rohit will be leading the Indian team in the 3rd T20 against West Indies after which the team will leave for Australia on 16th November. Meanwhile, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has compared Sharma to former India opener Virender Sehwag and former West Indies great Sir Vivian Richards.

Gavaskar said that Rohit is as destructive as Sehwag and Richards used to be in their playing days.

“The standout performer in both the limited overs series and the T20 series has been Rohit Sharma. Like Virender Sehwag before him, he is unstoppable once he gets going and like Viru he has an appetite for big hundreds. When Viru used to get out looking to hit another delivery out of the park, there used to be consternation around the ground, just like it is when Rohit gets out to a seemingly casual shot,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for The Times of India (TOI).

“If Rohit can turn his white ball exploits into red ball cricket, he will be the most destructive batsman in the world after Viv Richards and Virender Sehwag,” Gavaskar added.
