Two reasons why BCCI selected Orange colour for India’s away jersey against England

The long awaited India’s away jersey was unveiled on Friday as India gears up to play against England on 30th June in Birmingham. Indian team’s official apparel partner “Nike” unveiled the orange colour away kit. The political spectrum are echoing and questioning the reason for only changing to orange colour as it represents the symbol of ruling Bhartiya Janata Party. Here are the two reasons why BCCI chose orange colour for India’s away jersey.

2- ICC rules

England being a home nation will have the right to retain their blue jersey in the game against India.

“For televised ICC events all participating teams will be required to provide for two different coloured kits, except for the host country who has a preference in the choice of colour and may, if it chooses to do so, provide only one coloured kit to be worn in all matches throughout the event. In advance of the event the teams will be notified which coloured kit will be worn in each match,”  ICC had said in a press release.

In the clash of Bangladesh and South Africa, the former team was considered the home team which means that Faf Du Plessis led side had to wear the away jersey which was yellow in colour. Its worth mentioning that both the teams sport green colour kit. Bangladesh also has a red kit which will be used in their away game against Pakistan.

1- The existence of T20 kit in orange

Team India’s T20 jersey has shades of orange in it which prompt BCCI to opt for orange themed jersey for the away clash against England on 30th June.

“Colour options were given to BCCI and they chose the colour combination that looked the best to them. The whole idea is to be different from blue as England also wears the same shade of blue as India,” an ICC source told ANI.

“Also the design (orange) is taken from India’s old T20 jersey which had orange in it. The designers who are sitting in the USA designed this jersey from something that already existed and not something completely new that fans don’t identify with,” the source added.
