The in form Dinesh Karthik is likely to replace Wriddhiman Saha for Afghanistan’s debut test match at M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru from June 14.  Saha picked the injury in the Qualifier 2 of recently concluded IPL, where he broke his thumb on a delivery bowled by Shivam Mavi.

Saha has been India’s prime keeper since the retirement of MS Dhoni at the Australian tour of 2014.

According to sources close to the selection committee, MSK Prasad and Co are looking at the England tour, where Karthik could make the cut in the longest format also.

Karthik had last appeared in white clothes way back in 2010 against Bangladesh. He has played 23 Tests for India, scoring 1000 runs with a hundred and seven half-centuries.

The Chennai born wicket-keeper batsman has appeared in 157 first class matches, scoring 9,214 runs at an impressive average of 42.07.

Karthik played just one match of the 2017-18 Ranji trophy season for Tamil Nadu due to injury.
