Although Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have the highest popularity in India but former India International Yuvraj Singh was the most searched player on Google this year. The list was unveiled by Google which has come out recently. On the contrary, Google India released the list of most searched events and celebrities in the country this year.

Yuvraj Singh is ranked third in the list of most searched celebrities after Wing Commander Abhinandan and singer Lata Mangeshkar. Yuvraj Singh, who won two World Cups for Team India, retired from international cricket in June this year. Young wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant was given several chances, but he was in the limelight due to poor performance and was the 6th most googled celebrity. Virat and Dhoni could not make it to the top 10 among the most searched figures of the country.

The Cricket World Cup in England was the matter of discussion amongst the Indian cricket fans. Although India could not become world champion, but it was the most searched event on Google in the country. India lost in the semi-finals to New Zealand after the Kiwi bowlers went through the Indian top order, which created much difference for the men in blue throughout the tournament. In the dramatic final, England defeated New Zealand in a superover to win the title for the first time, courtesy boundary count.

The Cricket World Cup was followed by the Lok Sabha elections and ISRO’s Chandrayaan-2 mission. If we talk about the most searched sports events in India, then Cricket World Cup stood first and Pro Kabaddi League stood second, Wimbledon finished third and the Copa America Cup took the fourth spot. The Australian Open, French Open and Super Bowl finished fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. It is followed by the Ashes, US Open and Indian Super League.
