India’s legendary tennis star Leander Paes was today dropped from the Indian Davis Cup squad for the World Group away tie against Serbia scheduled from September 14 to 16. Leander was absent from the ongoing Asian Games as he pulled out of the games after he did not got a favourable partner in men’s doubles tennis event. The selection committee comprising of SP Misra, Balram Singh, Nandan Bal, Rohut Rajpal and coach Zeeshan Ali had selected the team via telephone conference.
Indian squad will comprise of the Asian Games gold medallist Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan pairing together in men’s doubles. The singles event will be spearhead by Yuki Bhambri, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Prajnesh Gunneswaran.
Mahesh Bhupathi and Zeeshan Ali will act as the non-playing captain and coaches of the team.
