Prithvi Shaw was adjudged the man of the series in the recently concluded test series against West Indies where the hosts India registered a dominant 10 wickets victory in 2nd test to take the series 2-0. Shaw, 18, amassed 237 runs in three innings of the two test matches to be a dominant force in the white cloth series.

Shastri says he see three great batsmen in Prithvi

Overwhelmed with the success, India coach Ravi Shastri heaped praises for the Mumbai youngster and said that Shaw reminds him of three great batsmen.

“He (Prithvi Shaw) is born to play cricket. He’s been playing since the age of eight in the maidans(grounds) of Mumbai. You can see all that hardwork showing. He’s a spectator’s delight. There’s a bit of Sachin there, a bit of Viru(Virender Sehwag) in him and when he walks, there’s a bit of Lara as well,” Shastri said.

“If he can keep his head on his shoulders and keep the work ethic, he has a bright future.”

Shaw scored 70 runs in the first innings and an unbeaten 33 runs in the second innings of second test match.

Shastri praised Umesh Yadav

It is rightly said, someone’s misery is another one’s opportunity and Umesh proved the words right. India lost debutant Shardul Thakur in the early part of the first innings when his groin injury sidelined him to the dressing room and India was left with lone pacer in Umesh Yadav.

The Vidarbha paceman was quick to make the most of the opportunity and picked six wickets in the first innings and then four wickets in second innings to pick the man of the match award.

“It can be a frustrating profession when you sit on the bench like Umesh for 4 Tests. Only 11 can play. He got his opportunity here and I’m very happy for him. It’s been done only four times (ten-for for a pacer in India).

“What this will do is make him believe that he belongs. He can say now that he wants his place. That’s given us a headache. He was on target,” Shastri said.
