India lost the second test by a comprehensive margin of 146 runs that saw the Australian team leveling the four match test series 1-1. Skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane have been the stand out performer for the team alongside mr. dependable Cheteshwar Pujara. However, the form of lower middle order batsman and the openers has been a big concern for India across the two test matches.

Virat Kohli hints of playing the same openers for the 3rd test match

The brilliant knock of Ajinkya Rahane in the 1st test ensured that India does not lose the first test and covered the failure of the openers. However, the same scenario was not repeated in the second test where the Indian openers KL Rahul and Murali Vijay were again dismissed cheaply, questioning their ability to play at away tours.

Meanwhile India captain Virat Kohli has hinted that he will stick with the same openers for the boxing day test match that starts on 26th December at the iconic Melbourne cricket ground(MCG).

KL Rahul has scored 48 runs in four innings of the two test matches, while Murali Vijay has just scored 49 runs in four innings.

Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal is the third opening option in the team who replaced Prithvi Shaw who was ruled out following an ankle injury.
