Tight schedule awaits Indian cricket team in 2021

Given the indefinite postponement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the dangers hovering over other bilateral series, it is possible that the Indian cricket team may have little time to spend on the field in the remaining months of the year, but the year 2021 should be extremely busy for them.

India will play 15 Tests in 2021

Virat Kohli’s team will ply their trade in 15 Test matches in 2021. In terms of Test cricket, the Indian team’s 2020 schedule was not very busy, with only five Test matches to play, of which they have already played two Tests (against New Zealand) in a losing cause. The Indian team is scheduled to play four Tests in Australia in November-December, while the last test is to be played in the first week of January next year.

16 limited overs matches played in 2020 (One-Day, T20)

India has to play mostly limited overs matches this year and has allready plied their trade in 16 matches, including six One-Day and eight T20 Internationals. India are scheduled to play more limited overs match, mainly T20 matches before T20 World Cup to be held in Australia in October-November.

According to the ICC’s Future Tour Program (FTP), the Indian team has to travel to Sri Lanka in July to play three One-Day and as many T20 Internationals, while in August they have to play three One-Day matches on their tour to Zimbabwe. This is followed by the Asia Cup in September which will be played in T20 format.

India will then host 50 overs world champions- England for three one-day and as many T20s in October. They will next travel to Australia to play three match T20 series which proves to be a dress rehearsal for T20 World Cup. The Indian team will stay in Australia after the conclusion of T20 World Cup where they have to play four Tests and three One-Day matches.
