MS Dhoni has been the face of Indian Premier League(IPL) since its inception in 2008 and has never looked back since then. The veteran gloves man retired from International cricket after that heartbreaking run out against New Zealand that made India lose the semi-finals to New Zealand of the 2019 cricket world cup in England. Since then, Dhoni has only appeared on the cricket field during the Indian premier league and after an unforgettable 2020 season, he led CSK to title in the 2021 season.
Suresh Raina the stylish southpaw and former CSK stalwart said that he will convince Dhoni to play IPL 2022 if they win the 2021 season and everything went according to the plan and the Ranchi lad may be playing his last IPL season to bid goodbye from his motherland as last year the league was played in UAE.
However, the fan base of Dhoni is such that the fans never want to see the end of him and that’s why social media was set ablaze a few times asking if Dhoni will play the 2023 season as well.
With the future of the great man being uncertain, a CSK official has opened up on his future. “It’s his call. We can’t make a comment on when he will take that call. For us, it’s important that MS plays for many years. But he hasn’t conveyed yet when he will take the call,” a CSK official told InsideSport.
Dhoni had a great season as the skipper last season but had an unforgettable season with the bat as he scored 114 runs in 16 matches at an average of just 16.28 which is his worst in all the IPL seasons.
The CSK official was also asked about the next skipper of Chennai Super Kings to which he replied- “There is no question of deciding the next captain. We have a great bunch of players and when MS decides to call it quits, we will take a call. We have not even discussed that situation yet.”
Meanwhile, CSK is scheduled to play Kolkata Knight Riders in the season opener on March 26.
