Report card of India's new comers on the basis performance in Nidahas Tri-Series 2018

The tournament according to many was of little significance, as the counterparts were as said “Underdogs”. But in this game nothing is certain, especially in T20 where anything can happen, one just needs to be prepared for high octile drama that the game offers. The tournament proved that India’s batting reserves are rich and young spinners are of a lot of assurance. We have tried to judge India’s new comers on the basis of their performance in Nidahas Tri-Series 2018.

Dinesh Karthik’s stylish finish will become part of Indian cricket’s folklore and India should make the most of this excellent phase he is going through. He is a proper batsman, not only a finisher as he batted too low in this tournament. He scored 85 runs in 5 matches, but his match changing innings in the final is enough to make him a hit in the team. Passed ✓

Raina’s presence lifts the batting heavily, being the most reliable batsman in this format as he finds a way of scoring runs in any situation, if the southpaw from UP bats for 40-50 balls he will win you matches. At present he is providing short thrilling cameos, i just wish to see him more as an all-rounder for this Indian team that will ensure him a place in the tough lot of players. He scored 103 runs in 5 matches. Passed ✓

Everyone must have enjoyed watching Washington Sundar bowl, not a single batsman was able to go after him and to achieve an economy rate of under six bowling largely with only two fielders outside the circle was a brilliant achievement for the youngster. He was rightly adjudged the player of the series for picking 8 wickets in 5 matches.  Passed ✓

India were without their frontline seamers, but by doing so the selectors gave Unadkat and Thakur a great opportunity to play a bigger role.

Unadkat let go an opportunity as he has been hugely impressive last year but relying on his slower ball and cutters makes him too predictable. He provides that rare left-hand option in country where every seam up bowler is a right handed. Unadkat must be in agony as he sense the opportunity has gone missing after poor performance at the African tour and not improving on the same at the Nidahas trophy 2018. He picked 7 wickets in 4 matches, but his economy of over 9, didn’t help India’s cause. Failed ×

On the other hand, Shardul thakur looked impressive in South Africa and thoroughly improved his performance in recently concluded Tri Nations series. The man from Mumbai possess a very good knuckle ball and a pretty good bouncer and it sense that there is a great future in hands for this young cricketer. He did take 6 wickets in 5 matches including a 4-fer but his economy of 9.03 proved way to expensive for the Indian team. Failed×

Nidahas Tri-Series 2018 showed India is significantly ahead of low lying neighbours, despite fielding a second tier team.
