Reports: CSK to release senior player ahead of IPL 2021

Reports: CSK to release Kedar Jadhav ahead of IPL 2021

Three times IPL champion Chennai Super Kings had a tough outing in last year’s edition of the league at United Arab Emirates (UAE) as they failed to qualify for the playoffs, which is first in 11 years of IPL history. While the bowlers performed in clusters, it was the batsman who let down the MS Dhoni led side and the poor form of middle order batsman Kedar Jadhav just didn’t help their cause.

The right handed batsman from Pune just scored 62 runs in 8 matches with a below par strike rate of under 94. The Chennai based franchise are set to make some major changes to the team for the 2021 season and it may lead to the release of Jadhav. CSK secured the services of Jadhav for a sum of 7.8 crore rupees during the 2018 season of IPL.

A source close to CSK management told InsideSport that the franchise is keen to invest on the young and upcoming talents and release the likes of Kedar Jadhav from the team. “Jadhav was not in best of form in IPL 2020. He was also struggling with his fitness. CSK will move on from Jadhav in IPL 2021, everyone in the team management feels that it will be prudent to take this hard call and invest in future,” the source said.

BCCI asks teams to release players before 20 January

According to sources, BCCI held a virtual meeting and opened the trading window while also directing teams to provide the released players list by January 20. A mini auction of IPL may be scheduled for next month where teams like CSK will be gearing up to bag some shining talent to give them a chance in the 2021 season and win another trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
