  • Cricket wont win a gold in Olympics

When Olympics is around, the media turn their attention to top players in their disciplines and give assurance of him/her bagging a medal for the nation. But what happens is they fail miserably and people criticize them and their efforts. People are busy chasing cricket for 5 years in which these athletes are working hard, surviving on a diet of milk and banana to perform for the nation. The time they train is the time when they need attention and support from the government. People can’t expect them to perform when a big tournament like Olympics is near. We workship cricketers as our gods and ideals, but considering some sort of support and backing them to perform can be a beneficial step in shaping the country as a sports superpower.

  • Right exposure to unfamiliar sports for pride of the nation

India have many world champions from the country. Likes of Jeetu Rai (Shooting), Deepika Kumari (Archery) are said to be the biggest medal prospect for India in Olympics. But why they fail to deliver when it matter the most?

Because they are not given the optimum exposure that is needed. Athletes from US perform because they are covered widely by media and broadcasting units irrespective of how many viewers are present to watch them perform, the profit and money not always matters, sometimes giving some exposure to our budding athletes can affect them positively and that is the only way we can see them perform like a champion does. People should not forget them as soon as the Olympics is over.

Government needs to ensure that they keep an eye on the biggest medal prospects and provide good coaching to the budding athletes. Private broadcasting companies should take help from sports authorities to cover certain sports which are unfamiliar in the country. Its even better to braodcast live content than showing the Highlights which can be a boring encounter.

  • We cant let a talented sportsperson to live in poverty

Have you ever came across a news like ” A cricketer suiciding” or ” A cricketer died of poverty”. The answer would be certainly “NO”, all thanks to BCCI having such stabled policies for cricketers that they don’t have to deal with shortage of debts in their playing period or post retirement.

But news like “Hockey player died of poverty” or a “Sprinter died of Cancer” would certainly be familiar. Because other niche sports don’t get the right finances or any sponsor to satisfy the wealth potion for them. They only live normal life when they are in the playing period and struggle post their retirement. The associations should introduce pension policies and government should offer jobs to sportsperson like these to lead a normal life. THESE STEPS WOULD ALSO  ENCOURAGE THE YOUNGSTERS TO TAKE UP OTHER SPORTS THAN CRICKET. WHICH WILL COMPLETELY MAKE INDIA  A “SPORTS SUPERPOWER” in future.

  • Encouraging leagues would lead to betterment of a specific sport, raising more champion players.

A sports like Kabaddi which was just familiar in rural India is now a vital part of Indian sports all thanks to Pro Kabaddi which was sponsored & broadcasted by Star Sports in the earlier part. Meanwhile, Chinese phone manufacturers “VIVO” have now sponsored Pro Kabaddi. Hockey was also a depleting sports in India but Hockey India League gave them a new lifeline. And also produced some talented players like Mandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh who are now an integral part of the team. Likewise, football was also a depleting sports but with introduction of ISL this sport have also been on a high and results are showing as India is now ranked under 100 after 2 decades in football.

These leagues give an insight of getting the specific sports popular amongst the countrymen and also helping players financially. Other associations and government sports authorities should look to raise funds. And form some leagues for unfamiliar sports which can be a boost for them.
