Third umpire to take call on front foot no ball from now on

Third umpire to take call on front foot no ball from now on

The T-20 series between India and West Indies starting tomorrow, will be played with a historical change that was the need of the hour from a long time. Now the front foot no ball delivered by a bowler will be decided by the third umpire instead of the on-field umpire. The ICC announced this revolutionary decision on Thursday. This arrangement will also be implemented in the one-day series after the three match T20 series. The ICC said that the bowler would have the benefit of doubt in the close case.

Currently, this rule is being implemented as a trial and if this new rule will succeed, then the on-field umpire will be revoked of the right to give no ball of the front leg. It is often seen that on-field umpires are often unable to see the no ball and they only see the action replay when a batsman is adjudged out. There have been many cases, when an umpire’s decision was turned on as he adjudged a batsman out on a front foot no ball. Many times it has also affected the last ball of the match, when the delivery should have been a no ball, but the batsman is given out.

The ICC said in a statement, ‘Throughout the test, the third umpire will be responsible for monitoring every bowler’s ball and identifying if there has been a front foot violation. If there is a breach in the front foot, the third umpire will negotiate with the on-field umpire, who will later be called a no ball.
