Asian Games 2023: Indian Army bringing laurels as Rowers open India's medal tally account

The Indian pair of Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh in men’s light weight double sculls opened India’s account in the 19th Asiad with a silver medal on Sunday. The pair who serves in the Indian army clocked a time of 6:28.18 to bag the second place behind China. Japan was the overwhelming favorite coming into the finals but they finish out of the medal contention at number five.

The Indian pair began strong with a second place start and they kept going strong and consolidated their position for the rest of the race. Remember the standard length of race in the rowing discipline is 2 kms. Its worth mentioning that Arjun Lal Jat is a naib subedar or junior commissioned officer in the Indian army and Arvind Singh is also commissioned in the Indian army.

It will be a busy Sunday and Monday morning for Indian rowers as they have managed to enter a number of finals in different discipline and will be eying glory.

In Guangzhou Asian Games 2010, Indian rowers finished with one gold, three silver and one bronze medal while in Indonesia in 2018, the country claimed one gold and two bronze medals.
